sandoz + nordeman at hagedorn
Brenda Massie of Hagedorn Foundation Gallery curates what will be one of the most colorful - literally, and we hope, figuratively - exhibitions this year. Landon Nordeman's photography populates the first floor and my paintings the second from January 29th until March 21st, 2015.
Please mark the January 29th reception date; come with and wearing your brightest.

on loving france
I can't guess how this place couldn't get under one's skin. This is a little illo I made on the subject for an illustrated memoir.

seven years
I've posted 2,055 times over these seven years starting on November 1st, 2006. That's crazy - like life. It's been a full gallop of ups and downs - haha (haha as George Saunders would write). Thank goodness for the full entertainment and engagement of looking at world, thinking about it and, of course, making stuff. I'm so content to work and live on this little farm for another seven. No seventh inning stretch. No itch.
The
writer(artist) should never be ashamed of staring. There is nothing that does not require his attention. - Flannery O'Connor
Much gratitude to those that inspire, teach, lead, challenge and spur me on a daily basis (with some of you working it on a minute to minute basis).
oh, happy day!

last day of summer
Last day of painting the "RR tybee series" and now I realize I dated the work "autumn 2009".

My WHOLE life I thought a 9" x 12", in art schmart terms, represented a portrait oriented space. Not true. How could I have missed this? I have painted a lot of squares so I've gotten away with this ignorance in many cases, but for real? And why didn't anyone tell me along the way that I had listed the work incorrectly? Now I'm terribly confused every time I try to figure, "What size is my work?" I completely learned this the wrong way. Worse, I don't think many gallery folks have corrected my placards.

Two themes of the last three days: snakes and erotic art. I didn't know what they had in common until today. Tomi Ungerer, the author and illustrator of my favorite snake story, is also known for his "adult" illustrations. Guess it's as simple as that.

I found this painter. I love his work for the same reason I do Diebenkorn's. They both make the making look effortless.

savannah lad holds breath, swims underwater
This afternoon, after a full day of "playing with (his) buddies", David Charles Bucey, who turned two in June, repeatedly swam underwater at the Habersham YMCA pool using both hands and feet to propel him. His mother, wearing an appropriate one piece swimming costume, who had done nothing quite as breathtaking (or spectacular) throughout the day, was duly impressed.

Aside from my abstracts being new(ish), I've also become a member at the YMCA. While I'd like to take advantage of more of the activities, I've only used the water facilities. One good thing about getting in a pool with a bunch of other moms (and kids)....you can see how wonderful (or awful) or average your child's behavior. (Same for the parents.)
But my favorite people watching: the grannies.
