Today Horace turns 43. We also celebrated our 3rd wedding anniversary (that's leather) last week (and ten years "dating" next week).

This is the present David and I made....antique (like Dan) fishing lures....still perfectly good.

savannah lad holds breath, swims underwater

This afternoon, after a full day of "playing with (his) buddies", David Charles Bucey, who turned two in June, repeatedly swam underwater at the Habersham YMCA pool using both hands and feet to propel him. His mother, wearing an appropriate one piece swimming costume, who had done nothing quite as breathtaking (or spectacular) throughout the day, was duly impressed. katherine sandoz web tybee field no. 1.jpg

fish story

My husband caught a bunch of fish Sunday. My son helped him clean the catch and I guess there were some little fishies left in the well. David picked one up, live, and tried to eat it. His father told him, "Fishy yucky, David." Outdoors, the temperature read three digits (hot!) as Dan fried the dinner. Upon serving, David refused his.

"Fishy yucky, Dada."

Aside from my abstracts being new(ish), I've also become a member at the YMCA. While I'd like to take advantage of more of the activities, I've only used the water facilities. One good thing about getting in a pool with a bunch of other moms (and kids)....you can see how wonderful (or awful) or average your child's behavior. (Same for the parents.)

But my favorite people watching: the grannies.

I had posted a drawing that I love and had forgotten that Jon Finch drew that picture. I guess 'cause of the subject matter? I feel terrible. 1) because I forgot 2) 'cause I don't like those types of mistakes 3) I really like Jon (& clearly, his draw hen). 4) In fact, I wish I had more of them.

2008: woes

1. We're on "a budget". Come to find out, this means spend no money. I had taken it for make a budget and follow it. For example, if I spend $70 out of $100 for groceries, I get $30. Not so. I'm $9.99 (facial care product) out of bounds and it's only been a week. (Don't write to tell me, "There's tax on that." I know!)

2. My ISP malfunctioned twice this week. Not in my plan for the year, never mind the seven days.

3. Two freezes already. Meaning my plants fail to thrive (stone cold dead).

4. My complexion does not impress me. In other words, for a grown woman, my skin continues to mottle instead of clear. (Hence, budget overdraft...that's my story, anyway.)

5. ABC Financial. How many ways can you spell 'hatechew'?

blog katherine sandoz hard times chili.jpg

At least we have chili seasoning. I guess. This child bathes in a zinc tub. He thinks that's hard times. It's not as if I didn't "wash" in one for the first twelve years of my sorry life. Without electric light (but I guess that goes without sayin').

exaggerate

It's hot as blazes. For real. I have the arthritis (starts with "art") in my right pointer finger as if I'm 400 years old. This dark painting about women, soldiers and summer take hen too much time (making me older and more arthritic). I'm not joking. blog katherinesandoz dark painting.jpg detail (deep summer paint hen, august 2007)
